The Middle Ring Road located in Greater Cairo has a total length of 22 km. The project entailed excavation, backfilling and pavement work. The road consists of 8 lanes, 4 in each direction, in addition to a 4-lane service road, 2 lanes in each direction. Work included laying a 30 cm thick aggregate base course, a 7 cm thick bituminous base course, a 6 cm thick binder course, and a 5 cm wearing course. Civil construction work included culverts, and reinforced concrete bridges on pile foundation that was 20,000 m long, and 60 com to 100 cm in diameter. The work included concrete barriers included were concrete barriers, and side slope protection.
